Sonnenberg Car Show Cruises in on Father's Day!

Automobiles of all sorts from “horseless carriages” (cars built/manufactured prior to 1916) to vintage vehicles, like the Model T, to mint-condition classics to modern marvels will be showcased on the grounds of Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park, Sunday, June 20 for the 4th Annual Sonnenberg Father’s Day Car Show & Auto Club Competition.

Past participants in the show include the Horseless Carriage Club of Rochester, Mercedes-Benz Club of America, Finger Lakes section, Genesee Valley Auto Club, Rochester Corvette Club, the MG Car Club of Western New York and the Buick Club of America, Finger Lakes Chapter. In the show’s fourth year, the format will again include a “best of club” competition as participating car clubs and affiliates determine which vehicle(s) from each club to nominate for higher awards. Membership in an auto club is not required to participate, however, as individual vehicles not affiliated with any regional clubs will also be able to compete in the Open-Class division, ultimately competing for best of show, along with the best of club nominees. A panel of independent judges will select the winners.

Individual drivers/owners, car clubs and affiliates and others new to the show are welcome and encouraged to register show vehicles in advance by Wednesday, June 16 for $5 per vehicle at www.sonnenbergcarshow.org   Registration will rise to $10 at the door on the day of the show. All occupants of the show vehicle are covered under the registration fee. Vehicles returning from last year will receive the same dash numbers for the awards competition. This year’s event also includes a Car Corral (entry $25) for owners to place their collectible vehicles up for sale. Show cars may begin arriving at 10 a.m. Sunday, with the public display to begin at noon, running through 4 p.m. Registration fees are a non-refundable donation to support non-profit Sonnenberg.

All visitors attending the show that day will be invited to vote for their favorites too, in the “People’s Choice Awards” for first-, second-, and third-place, which will be announced along with the judges’ selections prior to the close of the show at 4 p.m.

During the show, hots, burgers, soft drinks, popcorn, pretzels and ice cream will be sold by members of the Friends of Sonnenberg, the estate’s volunteer council, with an $8 chicken barbecue meal available from Gale-Wyn Farms. Wine tastings will be offered inside Sonnenberg’s Finger Lakes Wine Center. Musical entertainment, provided by Full House Entertainment, will set the mood for a fun-filled afternoon. A 50-50 raffle will also be offered. For the kids, there’s also a radio-control car club demonstration, fire truck engine to explore and Wildlife Animal Specialist Activity area ($1 entry/child for animal area). In addition, visitors to the show will get an up-close and personal view of GM’s revolutionary Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Cars. Those 21 and older w/ a valid NYS license will be able to sign up for a short test-drive in the fuel-cell car.(Space limited to approx. 6 individuals able to test-drive per hour.) Visitors will also see vehicles on display from GM dealer/sponsor Mike Barnard Auto Group. It’s a day the whole family will love!
