Thursday Teas at Sonnenberg return in August

Bring family or friends and enjoy an elegant tea, served by maids in Victorian costume, outdoors on the veranda of the 1887 Victorian Mansion at Sonnenberg Gardens &  Mansion State Historic Park in Canandaigua each Thursday in August. Bask in the elegance of a bygone era as you enjoy light, finger sandwiches, scones, sweets, and of course, tea!  Seatings -- at 12:30 pm or 3 p.m. each Thursday – are limited, so reserve yours early! This annual event is produced by the Friends of Sonnenberg Committee Council.

As the Sonnenberg teatimes often sell out advance, pre-paid reservations are required at 585-394-4922 or may be reserved through the new online ticketing at the Sonnenberg web site. Admission prices are: Adults -- $20, Groups of 10 or more $17.50 per person, Sonnenberg members, $15, Youth ages 4-12 --$8. Admission includes entrance to the gardens, which will be open for touring before and after each tea seating. Sonnenberg accepts the four major credit cards (MC, Visa, AmEx, Discover) for phone reservations.

Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park is one of America’s longest surviving estates from the Victorian Era. The elegant Queen Anne-style mansion was built in 1887 in Canandaigua by New York City financier Frederick Ferris Thompson, and his wife, Mary Clark Thompson, as a summer home. Between 1901 and 1920, the widowed Mrs. Thompson and her staff created the nine formal gardens seen today. The grounds are open to the public from mid-May through early October each year. Sonnenberg is a non-profit organization dependent upon the support of members and sponsors and its dedicated corps of volunteers. For more information on the revival of the grand estate on the “sunny hill,” contact Development Manager Lisa Scott at (585) 394-4922.
