Blake Shelton Discusses Relationship With Trace Adkins
Blake Shelton says he hasn't spoken with his "Hillbilly Bone" collaborator Trace Adkins since they were nominated for an Academy of Country Music Award last Tuesday. He notes their last conversation was by phone a few weeks ago, and he was a bit surprised at how unaware Adkins was regarding the success of their single.
Shelton adds that he doesn't plan to call Adkins to talk about their ACM nomination, noting he's waiting for Adkins to initiate the discussion. But that doesn't mean there's any animosity between the country stars. To the contrary, Shelton notes that Adkins has sort of taken him under his wing, and he refers to Trace as kind of a father figure to him in the business.
Shelton and Adkins' "Hillbilly Bone" is in the running for Vocal Event of the Year at the upcoming ACM Awards. The track is competing alongside Brooks & Dunn's single with ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, "Honky Tonk Stomp," Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis' duet "I Told You So," Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews' hit "I'm Alive," and the Jack Ingram-Patty Griffin duet "Seeing Stars." The 45th annual Academy of Country Music Awards will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and air on CBS on April 18th.
