MGMT Reflect On Fame With New CD
MGMT returns next month with "Congratulations." It focuses on the lingering effects of fame, stemming from the band's experiences while promoting the "Oracular Spectacular" disc. The group is giving the first taste of their new music with the track "Flash Delirium," which admittedly has a polarizing effect on their audience. Singer Andrew Van Wyngarden tells MTV News, quote, "It's kind of the most everywhere-at-once song on the album. It's like chaos. It's supposed to be about kind of going nuts and feeling completely overwhelmed and everything's falling apart. And it's funny to watch people's reactions to it, because it's a kind of love-it-or-hate-it thing." As maddening as it may be to some listeners, Van Wyngarden says the song came from a very real place. He recalls, quote, "We went through periods of paranoia, where there's all these people around you telling you things, then you never really know if you're doing something bad. I think that's why a lot of artists make really crappy albums, because everybody's telling them it's so good...so we don't know if our new album is crap or not." Audiences will be able to make that determination for themselves when "Congratulations" arrives April 13th.
