In 1977 - Elvis Costello was arrested when he was performing outside a CBS Records sale conference at the London Hilton. He ended up receiving a fine of eight-dollars-and-60-cents, and he was also invited back by CBS executives for an audition.
In 1979 - The American version of The Clash's self-titled album arrived in stores in the U.S. The album, which was the group's debut effort, was issued in the UK in 1977 with a different track listing. It was the band's second U.S. release.
In 1989 - Guns 'N' Roses "Appetite For Destruction" was certified multi-Platinum, while Depeche Mode's album "Catching Up with Depeche Mode" was certified Gold.
In 1991 - Metallica released the single "Enter Sandman."
In 1993 - Soul Asylum released the album "Grave Dancers Union."
In 1992 - Kiss guitarist Paul Stanley and actress-model Pamela Bowen got married.
In 2000 - The Beastie Boys had to postpone a tour with Rage Against the Machine because Mike D had injured his shoulder in a bicycle accident a few weeks earlier.
Oasis were forced to cut their set short at the Paleo Festival in Switzerland after the crowd pelted the group with bottles and cans.
In 2003 - Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain was arrested outside the group's Wantagh, New York concert after allegedly running over a parking attendant.
Limp Bizkit cut its set short during the Chicago stop of the Summer Sanitarium Tour because the crowd hurled plastic bottles and abusive comments to frontman Fred Durst.
In 2004 - Everclear frontman Art Alexakis took part in the Democratic National Convention as a delegate representing the 3rd congressional district in Oregon. Other rockers also attended the political gathering, including U2 frontman Bono and Joan Jett.
