Michael Franti & Spearhead Push Back New Album To September
Michael Franti & Spearhead will now release their new album on September 21st. Called "The Sound Of Sunshine," the album was originally scheduled to be released on August 24th. According to Billboard.com, release date plans changed when the band signed a deal to Capitol Records. The new deal marks a return to the label that Franti and his band left in 1997 after releasing just two albums. The singer says, quote, "I guess it goes to show you, don't burn any bridges. You always want to be welcomed back." Michael Franti & Spearhead's current single is the title track from the new record.
Franti says the album was born of his near-death experience last August when his appendix ruptured. He says, quote, "Getting close to checking out re-frames your whole life. Family, friends, seeing the sun, playing the guitar...all that became more important to me. I just wanted to bottle those feelings on 'Sunshine.'" Franti and Spearhead will hit the road two days before the album's release to kick off the "Sound of Sunshine" tour September 19th in Laytonville, California.
