1976 - Tina Turner filed for divorce from husband Ike.
1978 - Frankie Valli's single "Grease" was certified Gold.
1982 - Air Supply's "Now And Forever" album was certified Gold.
1983 - Madonna released the album "Madonna."
1984 - Prince's movie "Purple Rain" opened in the U.S.
Duran Duran's Roger Taylor married Giovanna Cantonne in a ceremony in Naples, Italy.

1996 - Toni Braxton's double sided single "You're Makin' Me High/Let It Flow" hit number one on the pop singles chart.
The Spice Girls' "Wannabe" hit number one on the UK pop singles chart.
1998 - Gloria Estefan's "Gloria" album was certified Gold.
1999 - Macy Gray released the album "On How Life Is."
2001 - The Go-Go's Belinda Carlisle and TLC's Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes each won 32-thousand dollars for charity on ABC's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire." Carlisle was playing on behalf of the Little Angels Pug Rescue, while Lopes' money went to the Village Foundation.
Britney Spears, Beyonce, and Justin Timberlake were among those voted as having the best smiles in show business.
2002 - Britney Spears caused a stir in Mexico. When she arrived to play the first of two concerts she was caught on camera making an obscene gesture to all the photographers surrounding her. She later apologized for the incident.
'N Sync's annual two-day Challenge for the Children charity benefit began in Orlando.
2004 - Beyonce Knowles and Britney Spears were the top pop nominees for the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards. Beyonce had five nods, while Spears had four. Alicia Keys, Jessica Simpson and Christina Aguilera also received multiple nominations.
2005 - Surviving TLC members T-Boz and Chilli kicked off their UPN reality show "R U The Girl with T-Boz and Chilli." While the contest was a search for the next TLC wannabe, the ladies were adamant that they were not looking to replace their departed bandmate Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. Lopes died in a car accident in Honduras back in 2002.
2006 - Former "American Idol" runner-up Katharine McPhee was a guest host on ABC's "The View." She also sang her rendition of "Over the Rainbow."< |
