Belinda Carlisle Dishes On Her Book, Past Drug Use
Belinda Carlisle is ready to talk about her struggles with drug abuse. In an interview with Spinner.com, the lead singer for The Go-Gos says she was scared of being found dead due to an overdose. Carlisle remembers spending three days using cocaine in a London hotel in March 2005, an anecdote included in her autobiography, "Lips Unsealed." She says, quote, "It's horrible. I can look back to that moment. March 14th was the end. I can go back...looking in the mirror and seeing what I saw, and keep remembering just how painful it really was." The 51-year-old says she first took drugs because she was a "contrarian" who didn't like the anti-drug message which was heavily promoted in her youth. These days, Carlisle is five years into recovery and lives in both France and India. The Go-Gos, meanwhile, were slated to go on a farewell tour this year. In June, the band announced that the trek -- called "Happily Ever After" -- was canceled after guitarist Jane Wiedlin injured herself while hiking. "Lips Unsealed" is available now.
