Sir Elton Criticizes Arizona Music Boycotts
Sir Elton John is speaking out on music boycotts in connection with Arizona's anti-illegal immigration legislation. "The Arizona Star" says the classic rocker told his audience at a Tuscon show last week he doesn't understand why major acts are snubbing the Grand Canyon State for political reasons. He reportedly said, quote, "We are all very pleased to be playing in Arizona. I have read that some of the artists won't come here." The 63-year-old then reminded fans that he's an openly gay man who plays dates in California, where same-sex marriage was recently voted down by a majority.
Hall and Oates and Los Lobos are among the artists who have recently cancelled shows in Arizona over the state's controversial new law. However, the legislation is undergoing some changes. "The Arizona Republic" reports that on Wednesday U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton prevented some of the most strict sections of SB 1070 from going into effect. |
